Leaders of interdisciplinary team science often find themselves in a unique position: high responsibility, limited authority. This relentlessly practical10-session leadership program is tailored to the needs of team researchers. Delivered across the academic year, the program equips you with practical tools and actionable skills you can apply immediately to strengthen your leadership, navigate complex dynamics, and create a more effective, collaborative work environment.
We welcome applications from cohorts of 12-20 current and aspiring research team leaders, program directors, and others responsible for team science to participate in 10 sessions over an academic year. The PAL program covers a wide range of topics, including:
- Role of leaders in team science settings; leadership persona
- Use of the Academic Unit Diagnostic Tool (AUDiT) tailored for research groups
- Building group vibrancy, effective inclusion
- Managing difficult conversations and conflict resolution
- Listening and asking questions
- Giving and receiving effective feedback,
- Negotiation skills for problem-solving
- Bully-proofing research environments
- Group problem-solving strategies
The ten interactive sessions feature case studies tailored to the challenges of leading team science and have been tested over two years with leaders of many interdisciplinary research teams.
