Janet Jokela
Janet A. Jokela, MD, MPH is Clinical Professor and Senior Associate Dean of Engagement at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Prior to this role, she served as Acting Regional Dean at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Urbana-Champaign. She holds a BA in economics and MD from the University of Minnesota, and an MPH from Boston University. She completed her internal medicine residency training at Boston City Hospital and infectious diseases fellowship at Beth Israel and Brigham and Women’s Hospitals, Harvard Medical School. She is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America, a Master of the American College of Physicians (ACP), and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London). She was a 2015 fellow of the national Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) program for women, served as ACP Regent, and currently serves as ACP Treasurer. She is committed to science communication about medicine and health, publishing thought-provoking essays in national media outlets such as The Hill, Chicago Tribune, and New York Daily News.
